4.88 is numerically higher than 4.56 and lower than 5.13, so it gives strong gear reduction in this group of JK rear sets.

Check before you order

• This is the rear set. The Rubicon front Dana 44 uses a reverse rotation, short pinion set instead (the D44RS series), so it is not a match for the front.
• Front and rear ratios have to match. If the front axle is already geared to 4.88 you are set, otherwise plan to do both.
• Confirm the rear axle is the Dana 44 with a 24-spline pinion before you buy.

What's included

The set is a ring gear and a pinion only. A retailer lists the bearing install kit, crush sleeve eliminator and pinion install kit as separate parts, and you will need to plan for them.

Installation

Expect around 6 hours and treat it as a job for someone who has set up gears before, or hand it to a shop.

Warranty

Yukon states a one-year warranty on its ring and pinion sets, and its site also describes a Y.E.S. protection plan for the gear set. Get the current terms from Yukon before you rely on either.
