What is Cylinder Assist Steering?
Cylinder assist steering adds a hydraulic ram to your existing power steering system, dramatically increasing steering force without replacing your factory steering box. The cylinder works in parallel with your steering box, providing additional hydraulic assist when you need it most—turning large tires, crawling over rocks, or maneuvering with locked differentials.

Benefits of Cylinder Assist:
- Reduces steering effort with larger tires
- Maintains factory steering feel and control
- Dampens kickback from rocks and obstacles
- Improves steering response with locked differentials
- Extends steering box life by reducing load
- More affordable than full hydraulic steering
- Retains factory steering components

PSC Cylinder Assist vs. Full Hydraulic:
The SC2221 is designed for cylinder assist systems, which retain your factory steering box and add hydraulic assistance. This is different from full hydraulic steering, which completely replaces the steering box with an orbital valve. Cylinder assist is perfect for vehicles that see mixed street/trail use and want improved off-road performance without sacrificing on-road manners.

Installation Requirements:
- Requires cylinder assist-ready steering gearbox with hydraulic ports
- Requires appropriate mounting bracket for your vehicle/axle combination
- Requires hydraulic hoses and fittings (typically -6AN)
- Tie rod clamp sized for your specific tie rod diameter
- High-pressure hydraulic hoses rated for power steering use

Available as Complete Kit:
The SC2221 cylinder is also available as part of complete cylinder assist kits (SC2221K) which include:
- SC2221 Cylinder
- Mounting brackets (vehicle/axle specific)
- Tie rod clamp
- Hydraulic hoses and fittings
- All necessary hardware

Upgrade Options:
For larger tire sizes or more aggressive builds, consider:
- SC2238 (1-5/8" bore) for 38-42" tires
- SC2200 (1.5" bore x 8" stroke) for applications requiring longer stroke
- SC2201 (1.75" bore) for maximum assist with 42"+ tires
