The Maxxis Trepador Competition M8060 40X13.50-17LT (part number TL00007900) is the Trepador turned all the way up. It's based on the Trepador Bias and uses the same construction and pattern design, but Maxxis swapped in a sticky race tread compound for the ultimate in off-road traction. If you're lining up for rock racing, ultra4-style events, or serious competition crawling, this is the Trepador you want under you.

The foundation is the same heavy-duty bias-ply casing that made the Trepador famous. It's built for durability and tread flexibility, so when you air down the tire conforms to rocks and ledges instead of skating across them. That flex is what puts more rubber on the ground, and with this compound, more rubber on the ground means a whole lot more grip.

The tread design carries over from the Bias too. Multi-curve tread siping improves traction on loose dirt and slippery terrain, and the tread elements are arranged to keep a uniform contact area so the full footprint is doing work. Aggressive side lugs give you improved side-bite on difficult off-road and rocky terrain, which matters when the sidewall is doing half the climbing. Nylon belt reinforcement adds puncture resistance and high-speed stability, both of which you'll appreciate when you're pushing hard between obstacles.

Features

  • Heavy-duty bias-ply construction for durability and tread flexibility
  • Aggressive soft competition tread compound for ultimate off-road traction
  • Multi-curve tread siping for traction on loose dirt and slippery terrain
  • Tread element arrangement for a uniform contact area
  • Aggressive side lugs for side-bite on rocky terrain
  • Nylon belt reinforcement for puncture resistance and high-speed stability
  • Recommended for competition use only; not for winter conditions

Now the important part: that soft competition compound is a tradeoff. Maxxis recommends the Trepador Competition for competition use only, and it's not meant for winter conditions. Maxxis also publishes a cold weather storage notice for its competition tires, since the racing compounds can be affected when they're exposed to temperatures below 32°F. If your tires have been sitting in a cold shop or trailer, check the Maxxis guidance before you mount and run them.

This 40X13.50-17LT mounts on a 17" wheel and measures 40.1" tall with a 14.8" section width. It's rated for a max load of 3,415 lbs. per tire at 45 PSI max inflation, has 23/32" of tread depth new, and weighs 100.6 lbs. per tire. That's a lot of rotating mass, so make sure your axles, gearing, and brakes are built for it.

Fitment note: Maxxis approves this size on wheels from 9.00" to 11.50" wide, with 11.00" as the measuring rim width. Confirm your wheel width, clearance at full stuff, and steering stops before you order.

If you're building a dedicated competition rig and grip is the only thing that matters, the Trepador Competition M8060 is about as sticky as it gets.
