The Savvy Offroad High Clearance Aluminum Rear Inner Fenders are built for 2007–2017 Jeep Wrangler JK and JKU builds running 35"– 42" tires that have pushed beyond what factory plastic rear liners can handle. At just 8.5 lbs per pair, they replace brittle factory plastic with 16-gauge CNC laser-cut aluminum precision-engineered using updated Jeep JK CAD data for exact fitment while delivering maximum rear wheel well coverage that protects fuel lines, electrical wiring, and rear components from rocks, mud, and trail debris. Compatible with stock fender flares and aftermarket high-clearance setups. The inner fender panel itself acts as a body trimming template when you are ready to cut for maximum clearance. Made in the USA.
The JK and JKU rear wheel well takes a beating on serious trail rigs. Factory plastic liners and many aftermarket liners crack, shred, and collapse under the sustained impact of 40-inch tires at full articulation. Savvy's aluminum rear inner fender gives the same platform a component that is built for what your build has become not what it left the factory as. Designed to clear 42” tires, these high-clearance rear inner fenders for Jeep JK and JKU are designed to give your Jeep the room it needs for serious off-road use.
The Jeep JK and JKU have been the foundation of serious off-road builds since 2007. Many of these rigs have evolved significantly from stock bigger tires, lifted suspension, coilover conversions, long-arm kits. The factory plastic rear inner liner was engineered for a 33-inch tire with stock suspension travel and stock axle articulation.
On a JK running 40-inch tires with a long-arm suspension and real articulation numbers, the factory liner and most aftermarket liners take impacts it was never designed to survive. The combination of tire contact abrasion, rock impacts through the wheel well, and the debris field generated at speed on rocky terrain destroys factory plastic on a predictable timeline. The result is not just a broken liner, it is exposed fuel lines, exposed wiring, and open access for trail debris to reach components that do not belong in the debris field.
Replacing factory plastic with 16-gauge aluminum before that happens is always cheaper and less stressful than dealing with the trail damage it was there to prevent.
On a Jeep JK or JKU running 37"+ tires with lifted suspension, the answer for most serious builds is yes. Front inner fenders handle clearance at the front wheel wells during full steering lock and compression where tire rub and liner destruction happens first and most visibly. Rear inner fenders handle clearance during rear axle articulation and compression and protect the fuel lines and wiring that live in the rear wheel well.
Running front inner fenders without rear on a serious JK build leaves the rear wheel well and everything in it unprotected. See the Savvy Offroad High Clearance Vented Aluminum Front Inner Fenders for the front wheel well solution that pairs with these rear fenders.
Many Jeep JK rear inner fenders provide only basic wheel well coverage, but fewer are designed with the clearance and component protection needed for larger tire builds and serious trail use. The Savvy rear inner fenders are built to help support aggressive off-road setups while protecting key rear components and giving Jeep owners more room for articulation.
For Jeep owners looking for Jeep JKU rear inner fenders, rear fender well protection, or high-clearance aluminum inner fenders that work with larger tires and future fender upgrades, this design offers a strong combination of tire clearance, lightweight aluminum construction, bolt-on fitment, and added rear component protection. It is an ideal rear inner fender upgrade for trail rigs, overland builds, and daily-driven Jeeps with larger tires.
Do these fit both the 2-door JK and 4-door JKU?
Yes. The Savvy high clearance rear inner fenders fit all 2007–2018 Jeep Wrangler JK 2-door and JKU 4-door models using updated Jeep JK CAD data for exact fitment across all model years.
Do I need to trim anything for installation?
No trimming is required for standard bolt-on installation. For maximum clearance on 35"+ tire builds, optional body trimming is recommended and the inner fender panel itself serves as the trimming template, showing you exactly where to cut for proper fitment.
Will these work with my factory fender flares?
Yes. Compatible with factory JK fender flares. Also works with aftermarket high-clearance fenders when you are ready to make that upgrade.
What tire sizes do these support?
Will clear 35” tires and up but designed and tested for 40"- 42" tires on lifted JK and JKU builds. For tire sizes below 35 inches on mild lift, factory liners may be adequate these are built for builds that have genuinely exceeded factory liner capability.
Do I also need front inner fenders?
On a 35”- 40"+ build with lifted suspension, front inner fenders handle clearance and protection at the front wheel wells during steering and compression. Rear inner fenders handle the rear axle articulation and the fuel lines and wiring in the rear wheel well. For a complete big-tire JK or JKU build, both are part of the same upgrade. See the Savvy Offroad High Clearance Vented Aluminum Front Inner Fenders for the front wheel well solution.
What finish do they ship in?
Raw aluminum. Powder coat or paint to your preferred color, or prep with Scotch-Brite and leave natural or DA sand for uniform finish. Some mill finish blemishes may be present on raw panels cosmetic only and normal for raw aluminum.
